Hi, I’m Jackie.
I am a postpartum doula and I LOVE my job! 10+ years ago I finished my Licensed Practical Nursing program (LPN) and got my first job as a nurse on the Postpartum unit in RUH. I knew instantly that working with new families was where I always was meant to be. As a nurse I worked with countless families and I heard over and over again “I wish we could take you home with us”. I would try so hard to educate, support and encourage the families I was working with for those short 12 hour shifts knowing many of them were going home to little or no support and how hard that was going to be for them. Friends or even family of friends were always asking for advice during their postpartum time and I willingly supported them as best I could. Far too often I’d hear parents say how they felt like they were drowning and it seemed no one was there to help them those first few months after having their baby. Over the last few years I’ve felt like there had to be a better way, there had to be someone that could help these families in their homes and that’s when I discovered the beautiful world of postpartum doulas. In the Spring of 2022 I took my postpartum doula training course through DONA as well as a refresher Breastfeeding Course. In the Fall of 2022 I started up my business (Prairie Postpartum Doula)! As I’ve worked with each of my postpartum families I’ve discovered that THIS is where I truly am meant to be. I love supporting, nurturing and educating these incredible families and can’t wait to work with many more.
In my free time I love to read (a LOT), listen to audiobooks, cook, play piano, clean/organize my house (yup, I really do like cleaning). I love to do anything outside from walking/hiking, skiing, exploring SK and camping. In the summer I also love coaching my Special Olympics Softball team, The Tigers.
I am so blessed to have the most incredible husband of 20 years, Wayne. I have two spectacular boys, Nathan (18) and Rylan (14). We have a mini blue heeler, Rex, that keeps us on our toes and is truly the best dog. When I’m not working as a postpartum doula I’m usually hanging out with these awesome guys.
What an incredible life I have!!
